2014 Wedding Trends

2014 Wedding Trends are hot off the press and everyone is weighing in on what’s hot and what’s not in the new year.  The Knot, Wedding Wire, Weddings in Houston, and even the Huffington Post have all weighed in the latest trends and what to expect this year. I completely agree with all of their fabulous reports and you should click on the links above to check them out.   To add to this continued conversation, there are a few trends Kat Creech Events would like to share  since it doesn’t have anything to do with the color palette, the flower selected, or the latest craze in ancillary entertainment.  It is what we call the intangible, which makes the tangible happen, and leads to an epic wedding.  We see this as a growing trends and quite possibly a staple in all wedding design and planning.

The 2014 Wedding Trends can be found far deeper than the the planning check list.  I would say the buzz word for our clients is “elegant, but casual.”  We interpret this as a vision of wanting a wedding to be beautiful, but comfortable, not casual.  We have found our clients wanting to invite guests into their wedding space as they would invite them into their home.  Comfortable, personalized and fun.  We anticipate more cocktail-style events on the horizon this year.

Wedding receptions are moving toward reception-style events vs the formal seated affair.  This doesn’t mean the event is not grand, it just means it has a different flow. Something more comfortable.  Food stations and small plates allowing for guests to mix and mingle are becoming a hot trend.  Rather than providing a room filled with rounds of 10 to a table or even the infamous family-stle arrangement,  brides and grooms are opting for limited seating and lounge furniture to provide a mix and mingle feel.  Statement bar pieces have hit the market and we do not foresee them going away any time soon. Unique food stations, such as build your own grilled cheese or decorate your own cupcake bar are welcomed experiences.

Grooms involvement in the wedding design and planning has been growing and is also a 2014 Wedding Trend.  More and more we are finding our grooms in the brides role. They are involved and care about the matrimony and the party.  The majority are both in the work force, developing careers, and busy. In general, handling life chores is a partnership vs a “his/her role” and this is carrying over into wedding planning. While it is true that every detail may not be a top priority, their presence is alive and well, and believe me, they have an opinion about the linen color, and it is usually pretty good.   It is no longer the brides wedding, it is “our” wedding.  We anticipate more blogs and articles written with the groom in mind as well as an increase use of the word of “and” as in the bride and groom’s wedding trends.

Commitment and/or gay marriage ceremonies should not be classified as a trend, but we think it should be listed as talking point.   As states continue to legalize gay marriage and commitment ceremonies are on the rise, knowing this trend {and I use this word loosely} is vital to knowing how to speak to the couple.  The traditional bridesmaid/groomsmen speak will not work.  We should expect to see more topics and articles on protocol in the coming year.
