Rena + Oskar: Black and Silver Wedding Anniversary at Hotel Sorella

The celebration of marriage is a pretty great thing!  We love the unity of two people falling in love and the beginning of a new adventure as a couple. Families coming together, growth, laughter, and emotion all summarize a wedding celebration.  Only thing better than a wedding is the celebration of an anniversary.  And, in this case, forty years!

Rena + Oskar’s black and silver wedding anniversary at Hotel Sorella was an epic modern design with a nod to their wedding day.  With a play on ruby, the gemstone associated with forty years of bliss, the Hotel Sorella ballroom came to life.  The table layout was in the shape of an E, which is the same as on their wedding day, representing his love for math, as in E=MC2.  Oskar might be one of the smartest men I have met.  The majestic black chandeliers provided the perfect compliment to he silver and black linens. Candles and tall modern cylinders filled with ivory callas, tulips, orchids, roses and hydrangeas ran down the royal table scape while red {ruby} tulips and roses peaked out along the way.

The culinary experience was simply amazing!  Over the years they have traveled the world together and loved the quintessential art of a chef’s talent.   Guests were welcomed with   warm lobster in a phyllo tartlet, black olive madelines with roasted garden vegetable tapenade and crumbled cheese curd, spice crab claw shooter, and grilled fig mustard atop a fig bread crostini with micro greens and drop of strawberry gazpacho glee with added microgreens. And, that was just the cocktail hour. If that wasn’t enough to temp your appetite, a mediterranean display with black olives, green olives, pickled vegetables, freshly sliced tomatoes and cucumbers  along with European style breads including ciabatta, focaccia, tatar olive oil pita bread, and herb infused rustic breads welcomed the guests table side.  First course might have stolen the show with its salad trio of shaved imported artichokes toss with grilled asparagus, yellow frisee and grilled portobello drizzled with a lemon aioli; sauté of zucchini, cucumbers, tomatoes, with added shaved parmesan; and micro peppers cress and petite mache salad with maple roasted butternut squash and crisp pancetta, sliced leek, orange segments with roasted shallot and porcini dressing.  Yum!  But, do not fill up as the appetizer of winter duck terrine with sauterne and plum coulis, pomegranate glee served with totsoi salad and pumpernickel crisp wanted to win the hearts of many.  Break time and a palate cleanse from a refreshing lychee sorbet was a welcoming treat.  The entree was a none other than the infamous petite filet with cabernet reduction, champagne scented grilled jumbo prawns, and sliced braised veal cheeks all complimented with a family-style celebration of sides.  These included lavender and sea salt fingerling potatoes, market vegetable ratatouille gratin, and fricassee of steamed farmed green beans and asparagus.  Finally, being international travelers, a lavish cheese tray was the only dessert option that would do. Even when you think you can’t eat one more bit, we all made room for this delicacy of  savory imported European cheeses,  pecan crusted goat cheese, brie, fruit jams, honey and pecans with the compliments of fresh grapes and strawberries.

Naturally, one band would never be enough.  The Fab 5, Beatles tribute band kicked  off the cocktail hour and the first part of dinner.  Along with the intermezzo, the entertainment changed gears to Kenny Neal, who is known as a modern swamp blues master and multi-instrumentalist.  Both dance floors nestled between the “E” table shape were packed.   Just about the time you thought this party was wrapping up, the curtain dropped, and Mango Punch turned up the heat.

It was indeed a night to remember!
