Deepa + Vibhu: South Asian Wedding at Royal Sonesta

Some would say Deepa + Vibhu’s  South Asian Wedding would rival the finest of the royal blood. A kingdom, literally was built for Deepa and Vibhu to marry and celebrate their families coming together as one. It was a ceremony with perfect embodiment of purity of thoughts, words, and deeds. The faithfulness towards each other was powerful and true to each other’s culture.

This South Asian Wedding was a full day of celebrating, with a traditional ceremony in the morning and a modern-inspired reception in the evening. More importantly, every step of the way, there was a little something to progressively surprise and entice you. A little design, a little detail, and a little entertainment. No time for boredom, this was the 14-hour celebration of love.

The morning celebration began bright and early with the groom’s arrival to the Baraat via a helicopter. Nothing like setting the tone for an amazing event than when your guest of honor arrives in style. The Baraat celebration included a mobile DJ with dholak players, and a white horse with the finest dressing and floral accents. The parade concluded at the temple steps, which was flanked by (2) 8’ 600lbs life size elephants decorated with the finest of fabrics. The entrance into the temple was a welcoming masterpiece of cascading floral, silk garlands, banana plants, and colorful drape.  The bride and groom would enter opposite ends of the 400 swear feet gold walkway and meet in the middle, under a glorious peacock inspired Mandap with stunning gold gilded peacock wings holding the floral canopy overhead. Fuchsia and ivory orchids suspended the perimeter while lush fabric and a crystal tiffany chandelier completed the elegant look. Ivory elephants anchored the Mandap, an important icon in the South Asian culture, representing wisdom. Finally, the gold chiavari chairs were placed in a semicircle, providing the idea that the guests arms were wrapping around the couple during this very sacred ceremonial celebration.

The reception took on a very different look, which celebrated the couple’s style of modern design with a love for technology. The color scheme was focused on modern ivory grouping with lots of texture along with highlights of orange floral, the couples favorite flower color. The layout was a unique space designed around a 24’x24’ white dance floor with rounded corners. The space was symmetrical and each table had it’s own unique theme.  To provide consistency, the place setting was brought together with the help of the classic clear chiavari chair, crisp geometric white charger, gold fireworks napkin, and custom menu card.

Over the glistening white dance floor, hung a 16×16 floral grid suspended at 16’. By grid, it should be defined as hundreds of thousands of dripping wisteria and hydrangea flowers above you while you dance the night away. It was nothing short of epic and awe-inspiring upon entering the space.

Lighting and production played a key role in bringing the foundation to life. Due to the venues 24’ ceilings and open grid, we were able to continue to celebrate the love of clean lines by suspending all sound and light trusses from above.  Just when you thought the space was complete, the wallpaper GOBO projections came to life. The lotus flower image was a custom GOBO template inspired by the wedding invitation, which was designed in India. The wall was a blank canvas to exhibit the artwork and a new purple color hue was created. The room seemed to breathe with kinetic energy as the GOBO projections faded in and out, a new technology debut at this event. It was a subtle detail which will long be remembered by these technology gurus.
